About The Author “Yes, I Eat Too” Hi, I’m Chef Shemecka but you can call me Chef Mecka, your allergy-aware flavor fairy and food freedom hype woman. And yes, contrary to popular belief, I do eat. A lot. My food journey started not in culinary school, but at the end of yet another awkward dinner where someone said, “You can’t eat  “Wait, THAT either?!”—cue the server’s side-eye, the confused aunt, the sad bread basket.

 After years of navigating allergies, sensitivities, and straight-up digestive drama, I got tired. Tired of bland food. Tired of being “that person” at restaurants. Tired of smiling politely when someone said, “Just try a little, it won’t kill you.” (Spoiler alert: sometimes it might!) So I got to work. I learned how to cook in a way that protected my body and honored my soul.

I turned pantry problems into creative solutions. I found joy in ingredients I used to avoid. And I vowed to make food that tastes like something you’d fight your cousin over at a potluck, not something you politely chew while dreaming of fries. This cookbook is for every person who’s ever felt like eating safely meant eating boring. It’s my way of saying: You’re not alone. You’re not limited. And you’re definitely not cursed.
